The East Ham Civic Campus project was the first of a phased approach to bring rejuvenation and regeneration to the East Ham area, and renew the Borough’s presence in the area. The project consisted of: phase 1 – a new purpose-built Customer Service Centre and Library, set in the curtilage of a listed historic campus, and provides front line services between the local community and the Borough. Phase 2 – the refurbish of a Grade II listed Edwardian Technical College, is now home to a new 6th Form Centre specialising in maths and science. Finally, phase 3 – part refurbishment of Grade II* Edwardian Town Hall buildings including the detachment of a Town Hall Extension building, demolition of latter-day lean-to buildings and installation of a lift building to service the multi-level Town Hall (2 storeys but 4 levels).

How did Sypro help?

As described above the project naturally split into three succinct elements, each with its own contracting teams from the Contractor’s side and individual members from the design team. However, the Project Management and Cost Management teams remained as one individual in each discipline. The amount of paperwork created by virtue of the NEC, particularly on refurbishment of historic listed buildings over 100 years old, would have been unsustainable and unmanageable. This is where Sypro assisted in managing the virtual paperwork and acted as the depository for all early warnings, compensation events, instructions and programme acceptances.
